YES, WAY! There is a foolproof resolution!
Christmas is over and we prepare for the New Year. Do you look ahead with fright, anticipation, excitement, or dread? If I am honest it is all the above, and I suspect it might be for you too. Therefore, we try to gain some control through New Year’s Resolutions. It is futile, of course, for we have no control and almost all resolutions fail within the first month!
AH, BUT WHAT IF WE MAKE A FOOLPROOF RESOLUTION THAT REQUIRES NO EFFORT, BUT WILL LIFT US HIGHER DAILY?
Simply stated there is a Foolproof Resolution! With little preparation and effort you will routinely focus on our Creator and Savior.
For those you that think making resolutions is not a Christian practice, I understand. Check out a previous blog from several years ago where I dig into this question. In reality, this is not so much a resolution, but more of a tool to help us focus on God throughout the year.
A SHORT HISTORY OF HOW I PRACTICE THIS SUGGESTION.
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION 2021
I previously attended a church where the pastor suggested we take one name of God and focus on that during the entire year. My husband and I did this in 2021. We chose the name Jehovah-Jireh – He provides.
I wrote Jehovah-Jireh on 3 x 5 cards throughout the house. When I opened a kitchen cabinet there the name hung. Couldn’t help but see the name when looking in the bathroom mirror. As the old file cabinet creaked when I pulled out the drawer it seemed to say Jehovah-Jireh. Of course, the name stared back at me each time I opened the refrigerator! Unfortunately, that is a lot!
Being constantly reminded how often God provided, for not only our needs, but our wants as well, gave me a sense of comfort and calm.
SO, MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED TO DO THIS FOOLPROOF RESOLUTION AGAIN FOR 2022.
There was no consternation – as if God selected the name! The focus in 2022 is El-Shaddai or God Almighty.
God is all-sufficient and the source of all blessings. God is all we need, in fact, He is more than we need. There is nothing He can’t do. He speaks as El-Shaddai to many people in the Bible. He first revealed Himself as El-Shaddai to Abraham in Genesis 17:1. And take a look at one of my favorite verses, Ephesians 3:20: Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Yep, that is El-Shaddai.

ONCE AGAIN, WE ARE CHOOSING A NAME FOR 2023!
Jehovah Magen, “The Lord My Shield” is our chosen Name this year. See Psalm 33:20. We don’t know who wrote this Psalm, but it extols our God as the writer seeks the shelter and safekeeping of Jehovah Magen. We can always place our hope in God, even when going through difficult times. God provides protection throughout our lives and we really don’t recognize how often his hand and shield were there to avert disaster or harm. To learn more about this complex name of God click here.

It is easy and the little work involved, I’ve done for you!
Below is a list of twelve names of God to choose from. Of course, you can always use a search engine for some additional names. Other than choosing a name, you only need to write the name on some 3 x 5 cards and place in strategic places around the house.

- YAHWEH-SHALOM: The Lord Our Peace

- EL ELYON: God Most High
- EL ROI: God Of Seeing
- EL-OLAM: Everlasting God

- YAHWEH-TSIDKENU: The Lord Our Righteous

There are a few ways you can accomplish this foolproof resolution
- As I do, choose one for the entire year.
- Choose four and focus on one name each quarter.
- Of course, you can choose three names and focus on each choice for 1/3 of the year.
- Lastly, choose all twelve on the list and change your focus each month!
Side Affects of this Foolproof Resolution
- Each time you look at the card your mind will focus on God,
- Because you focus more on God, you will find yourself organically praying more often.
- There will be opportunities to share your faith because guests will ask about the cards they see throughout your house.
